Location & Property

Where is Lakemore Resort, and how far is it from Traverse City?

Lakemore Resort sits just 10 minutes from Traverse City — about 20 minutes to Downtown. We're nestled in the southeast quadrant of Grand Traverse County, giving you easy access to everything the area has to offer while staying well clear of the high-traffic corridors.

When were the houses built, and how do they differ from one another?

Lakemore Resort opened in July 2020. The resort sits on 11 acres of waterfront property on the western shore of Arbutus Lake. The original structures were removed in 2018 and the entire property was thoughtfully redeveloped — preserving as many original trees and natural features as possible.

Phase one introduced three brand-new luxury vacation homes. Each house shares the same generous floor plan and full suite of amenities, but features its own distinct interior design — giving every group a slightly different experience of the same beautiful setting.

Lakemore Resort is the sister property to Lakemore Retreat, located across the lake on the eastern shoreline. The Retreat has been welcoming families since 2015 — over 350 groups, 130+ five-star reviews, and a summer calendar that books nearly a year out.

What is the surrounding area like, and how do I access the resort?

We're located ¾ of a mile from Garfield Road, the main north-south corridor into the east side of Traverse City — easy to find, easy to reach. The resort is open year-round. In the off-season, you're 5–15 minutes from mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snow tubing, and snowmobile trails. Snowshoeing is right from the front door. Traverse City's exceptional dining scene is just 15–20 minutes away whenever you're ready for a night out.

The Lake

How big is Arbutus Lake, and what's the water like?

Arbutus Lake is a nearly 400-acre all-sports lake made up of five smaller connected sections — locals refer to them simply as Lakes 1 through 5. Lakemore Resort sits on the eastern shore of Lake 2, the largest of the five, in one of the most naturally sandy stretches on the entire lake.

Our beach is a genuine rarity: naturally sandy, with a gently sloping bottom that's ideal for kids and newer swimmers. The lake is open for swimming from May through October. It's large enough for water skiing and tubing, yet intimate enough for a peaceful morning of stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, or fishing.

How busy does the lake get?

Arbutus Lake is something of a well-kept secret — known among locals for being serene, quiet, and genuinely relaxing. A county ordinance enforced by the Sheriff's Marine Department restricts high-speed boating between 7:30 PM and 11:00 AM the following morning. Evenings and mornings on the water are calm and peaceful, while afternoons still leave plenty of time for water skiing, tubing, and all your favorite lake activities. Violations carry ticketed fines.

How far in advance can we book?

Our calendar opens to the public 18 months in advance. Reservations beyond that window are available by request — just reach out and we'll do our best to accommodate.

How does booking work, and what is your cancellation policy?

Reservations can be made directly through our website. Rates vary throughout the year, so make sure your dates are accurate before finalizing a quote. During June, July, and August, we require weekly stays — Friday to Friday, with check-in and check-out on Fridays only.

Is boat rental available?

Yes — we offer 2020 Bennington tri-toon pontoons with 140 HP engines, available for daily and hourly rentals directly on site. Services include dock delivery, unlimited fuel, covered storage, and daily staff support. We recommend booking early for summer months, as availability fills quickly in June, July, and August.
